  Kroger $KR agreed to buy Giant Eagle for $1.65B, including $1.25B cash and about $400M of assumed liabilities. Giant Eagle operates 197 supermarkets and 11 pharmacies across Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Indiana. The deal comes after Kroger’s blocked $25B Albertsons merger, as grocers keep consolidating to compete with $WMT, $AMZN, inflation pressure, and weaker consumers. Kroger expects the deal to close in 2027 and become accretive to adjusted EPS in the second full year after closing.
