THE NASDAQ CLOSED 2% LOWER TODAY AS A GLOBAL TECH SELLOFF CENTERED ON MEMORY CHIPS RATTLED MARKETS FROM ASIA TO WALL STREET It started overnight. South Korea's SK Hynix, a memory-chip leader, closed down more than 12%, dragging the Kospi down nearly 10% in a single day. Then it crossed the ocean: - Micron $MU: -11% - Sandisk: -12% - Qualcomm $QCOM: -8% - Seagate $STX: -6% - AMD: -5% - Intel $INTC: -4% The chip ETFs took it on the chin too. The VanEck Semiconductor ETF $SMH fell 6%. The S&P 500 dropped 1.43% and the Nasdaq slid 2.21%, while the Dow held just below flat as money rotated into defensives like Walmart $WMT, P&G $PG and J&J $JNJ. IBM popped 5% on a JPMorgan upgrade. The twist: SpaceX $SPCX, down three straight days into Monday, actually closed up 6% today. One Morgan Stanley PM's read on the chip rout: the AI winners aren't expensive, they're "crowded," and this kind of sharp pullback is "healthy."
